A moving exploration of connection, care, and the human cost of neglect, Dragonfly marks a stunning return to the big screen from BAFTA-winning filmmaker Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton, A Confession).
Set in contemporary Britain, Dragonfly follows Elsie (Brenda Blethyn), a neglected pensioner who finds an unexpected ally in her younger neighbour Colleen (Andrea Riseborough). As their friendship deepens, both women's lives begin to brighten—until simmering family tensions threaten to tear their fragile world apart. The film also stars Jason Watkins (The Crown, McDonald & Dodds).
"I wanted to tell a story about the marginalised and forgotten people in society," says director Paul Andrew Williams. "About those who have been disregarded by the state or by their own families. Dragonfly shines a light on the thorny but universal issue of social care and asks audiences to challenge their preconceptions of others."
The film is produced by Marie-Elena Dyche (Blue Jean, How to Have Sex) and Dominic Tighe (Bull, Mdudu Boy) for Giant Productions and Meraki Films, with executive producers including Eilene Davidson, Naomi Despres, and Paul Webster.
Dragonfly showcases exceptional performances from two of Britain's most acclaimed actors. Andrea Riseborough, fresh from her Academy Award-nominated role in To Leslie, delivers another deeply affecting turn opposite Brenda Blethyn, whose celebrated career includes Secrets & Lies, Little Voice, and ITV's Vera.
