Slasher Unleashes Its Biggest Update Yet, Bringing Horror Fans Even More Ways to Connect

Slasher - Banner

The horror-first social platform has undergone its biggest overhaul in seven years, introducing redesigned movie and book sections, streaming discovery, thousands of trailers and a brand-new gore rating system.

Just in time for Halloween, horror fans have something new to get their teeth into. Slasher, the social platform built specifically for the horror community, has launched the biggest update in its seven-year history.

Released on 29 October, the major overhaul follows two years of development and touches almost every corner of the platform, with one clear aim: making it easier for horror fans to discover films, share recommendations and connect with like-minded genre enthusiasts.

First launched on 31 May 2019, Slasher was created as a dedicated space for horror fans, filmmakers and creators, offering an alternative to mainstream social platforms where genre content can sometimes struggle to find its audience. Since then, it has grown into a wider community covering horror films, books, events, reviews and independent creators.

The latest update takes things considerably further.

A new home for horror discovery

One of the biggest changes comes to Slasher's Movies section, which has been completely redesigned.

A new Watch Now feature allows users to see which streaming services have horror films available in their country, making it easier to find something to watch without endlessly scrolling through different platforms.

There's also a dedicated trailer section, allowing members to search, sort and watch thousands of horror trailers.

Individual movie pages have also been expanded, bringing together ratings, reviews, streaming availability, recommendations, member lists and other users who share an interest in the same films.

Essentially, it's becoming a one-stop shop for discovering your next horror obsession.

Books, reviews and finding your horror people

The Books section has also received a substantial rebuild, with members now able to save titles, create reading lists and browse collections put together by other users.

Slasher has also introduced reviewer rankings for both films and books, recognising its most active contributors and helping members find reviewers whose tastes align with their own.

It's a welcome addition for anyone who prefers recommendations from fellow horror obsessives rather than relying entirely on mainstream review platforms.

Introducing Gore Factor™

Perhaps the most appropriately gruesome addition is Gore Factor™, Slasher's own rating system, now available across both its Movies and Books sections.

Members can rate how gory a film or book is using a scale of one to five blood spatters, allowing users to browse and sort titles according to their preferred level of bloodshed.

For some horror fans, the more blood and guts the better. For others, a little less splatter is preferable.

As Slasher founder Damon Della Greca explained:

"There are a lot of horror fans who absolutely love to see lots of blood and guts. Of course, there are also people who don't care to see much of it."

Della Greca says the feature was introduced to help people understand what level of gore they can expect before choosing a film or book.

And frankly, it's not a bad idea. Sometimes you want a full-on splatterfest. Other times, you just want something creepy without having to watch someone lose three limbs along the way.

Built for horror fans, all year round

While the timing of the update is perfect for Halloween, Slasher's wider ambition goes beyond the annual October horror rush.

The platform has spent seven years building a dedicated community for fans who don't pack away their horror interests when November arrives. With its expanded discovery features, community tools and improved ways to connect, the latest update represents a significant step in that journey.

"This is a major step forward for Slasher," said Della Greca. "Hopefully, everyone likes the way it's evolving. There's still a lot more on the way."

The update is available now on iOS and Android.

For horror fans looking for a dedicated space to discover films, share recommendations, find fellow genre enthusiasts and keep up with everything happening in the horror world, Slasher might be worth checking out.

After all, not all horror fans wait for Halloween.
